Poor water management in the Middle East

A new World Bank report puts a figure on the cost of poor water management in the Middle East and North Africa at $21bn a year. It says that of all the challenges the Middle East and North Africa faces, it is least prepared for water crises. This is set against a background of increasing water consumption and unsustainable amounts of water being extracted in more than half the countries in the region.

The report goes on to warn that measures to improve the management and distribution of scarce water resources are now vital for the region’s growth and stability.

It is not a coincidence that i2O has hired a new person to lead sales of its solutions in the region. i2O’s smart water network solutions reduce leaks and bursts and extend the life of existing infrastructure, and can play a vital role in helping to avoid catastrophe.
